Basic Color and Design as It Relates to Fiber Art
Two to four days workshop. (All levels, no sewing.)
Students work through a series of exercises designed to heighten their design and color use awareness. Materials used are primarily magazine pictures, color-aid paper, tempera paint and Prismacolor pencils and markers. Emphasis is on effective communication of ideas.
Longer description:
Students will be given a variety of design problems to solve using torn or cut black and white paper, magazine pictures, and color-aid paper. There will also be exercises using tempera or gouache (longer workshops only). Exercises will cover subjects such as figure/ground relationships, image/design clarity, value and hue relationships, visual depth, image organization, visual communication, repeating pattern, and illusion of transparency. (The number of topics depends on the length of the workshop.)
Students should bring a variety of design materials including:
Lots of magazine images to tear up, rubber cement or glue sticks, scissors, white paper, ruler, exacto knife, cutting mat, pencil, and good quality paint brushes (longer workshops only).
Optional:
Black markers, colored markers, Prismacolor pencils, crayons and other materials.
